In this episode Kevin Griffin is talking about mindfulness, dharma and how it helped him in his recovery journey. We also talk about Ānāpānasati and how mindfulness encompasses the full range of meditation benefits and how the dharma is reflected inside of it.
Anapanasati literally translates to “mindfulness of breathing” in Pali. It holds a central place in Buddhism, considered the quintessential form of Buddhist meditation as taught by Buddha.
Anapanasati serves as a foundation for other Buddhist meditation practices. By calming the mind and developing focus, it prepares you for other meditation techniques.
By focusing on your breath, you train your mind to be more aware of the present moment. This can help you:
- Reduce stress and anxiety: When you’re focused on your breath, you’re less likely to be dwelling on worries or future plans.
- Improve focus and concentration: The practice of bringing your attention back to your breath strengthens your ability to concentrate.
- Gain a sense of calm: As you become more aware of your breath, you can cultivate a sense of inner peace.
Anapanasati is a simple practice, but it takes time and effort to master and Kevin talks about that as well
